The airport meets with international standards laid down for those in wheelchairs and features include wide aisles and doorways for ease of mobility, lifts to all floors, wheelchairs available on request, specially adapted toilets and lowered telephones, an induction loop system and designated disabled persons’ parking spaces. If those with special needs require assistance, calling their respective airline ahead of time will ensure their needs will be met without unnecessary delays.
Bristol International Airport (BIA) has an induction loop system, which works by amplifying announcements for those passengers who are wearing hearing aids. Foreign exchange booths and the information desk are also equipped with induction loop systems.
For the blind, it is best to call the airport ahead of time to arrange for extra assistance if required. Braille signs have been installed to assist the blind at various important points around the airport including in the restrooms and at telephones.
