Special needs at Gatwick Airport
Facilities for disabled travellers at London Gatwick conform to standards set by the European Union with regards to issues such as access for those with mobility problems, facilities for the hard of hearing and those with visual impairments.
Inconveniences for wheelchair bound passengers are kept to a minimum by the adequate provision of ramps between areas of differing heights and lifts, providing access to different floors. Reserved seating areas, which are clearly marked, are also provided for disabled passengers and are on hand in both terminals.
Passengers with hearing difficulties can make use of the airport's induction loop systems, which are available in locations clearly marked with the 'sympathetic ear' symbol. Public telephones are also fitted with coupling devices to increase the volume for hearing aid users.
Partially-sighted passengers will find all of the airport's signage printed in black against yellow for maximum contrast. Blind passengers are permitted to bring guide dogs into the terminal buildings and on to flights; however, both the airport and the passengers’ airline should be informed of this prior to arrival.
